 introduction  adam claude devereaux was born on april 12th, 1720 in a castle in the Black Forest, a short distance outside paris, france to queen genevieve and king germain. though the queen (and consequently her son) had a secret: she was a faerie, from a well-respected family within the seelie court. queen genevive had been a lady-in-waiting and trusted confidant to the queen of the fae herself.as much as the human king loved his wife and she him, he feared the light magic within her and within his half-fae son. not only did he fear the abilities of his family, but of the others like them, hidden throughout france. these beings then came to be known collectively as les charmants, no matter what type of creature they were or the magic they possessed. the king’s misplaced paranoia that they could one day band together and overthrow him caused him to demand that any of les charmants that were discovered in france be imprisoned, despite the queen’s protests. he also forbade the queen from using her magic in public (lest their people discover her faerie heritage) and from teaching their son to use his as he grew.still, his mother taught him in secret (beginning at four) despite the king’s orders, taking him out into the forest surrounding the castle under cover of night once the king had gone to bed and the guards weren’t looking. these magic lessons continued alongside the normal daytime school lessons from his private tutor. however, they ceased when adam was eight, since genevieve fell deathly ill. she died the following year, leaving the king heartbroken and angry. as such, he became a colder and more distant man, especially with his son, since he reminded him of her. one day, when he caught adam practicing covertly in the castle gardens, he screamed at him, forbidding him to ever use his magic again or risk a beating before locking him in his room.defiant as ever, adam continued to practice secretly, stealing his mother’s books from the library and learning everything he could. however, when he turned ten, tragedy struck again. a group of angry les charmants infiltrated the castle guard and murdered the king in his sleep. too afraid to face those far more skilled with magic than he, adam hid underneath his bed and was spared their wrath. however, he promised himself then that, despite how much his relationship with his father had been strained, he would one day find those responsible and ensure they faced justice.following his father’s death, the castle staff who had loved the young prince since his birth cared for him and guided him, chief among them being the head maid, mrs. potts, the majordomo, cogsworth and a servant, lumiere.despite their love and nurturing, adam became spoiled, selfish and unkind. however, the staff still cared for him all the same. the next significant event in the boy’s life wouldn’t come until he turned thirteen. the curse  he threw a lavish ball in his own honor (paid for by the country’s incredibly high taxes he imposed) and invited noblemen and women from across france. during said party, a storm was raging outside and an old beggar woman came to the castle, seeking shelter in exchange for a single rose. the prince laughed at the meager offering. she then warned the half-fae not to judge her solely on her appearance, since beauty is found inside. once again, the naïve royal dismissed her, and the old woman’s appearance dissolved, revealing an enchantress that was as beautiful as she was powerful. adam pleaded for her forgiveness, but then she was the one to refuse, stating that there was nothing but darkness in his heart and that he lacked the ability to love.
as a result, she placed a curse upon him, turning him into a hideous beast and his staff into animated furniture. declaring that his inside should match his outside even more, she darkened his magic as well as his mind and heart, making him colder, meaner and drunk on the power his new, darker magic afforded him. the enchantress then explained that the only way the curse could be broken was if he could put aside his thirst for power for another’s love, whilst earning their love in return. if he did not do so by the time the last petal of the enchanted rose she offered him fell on his twenty-first birthday, he would remain a beast for as long as he lived. meeting belle  with every year that passed, he seemed to succumb more and more to the darkness within him, using spells to terrify the people of the small village outside the forest. however, as he reached the age of twenty, everything changed when a young woman named belle trespassed within his castle, having gotten lost in the forest whilst trying to escape her abusive husband, a former army captain named gaston legume. in a rare and unexplained act of mercy, when the beast discovered the trespasser, at the urging of lumiere and cogsworth, he offers her a choice: become his prisoner for the remainder of her life, or die at his hand. she chose the former, and he put her in a tower cell in the castle dungeon. against their master's wishes later that night, they freed her and gave her a guest room in the east wing.
that night, belle gave herself a tour of the castle, ending up in the west wing, despite her saviors warning her that her presence there was forbidden. She found her way into the prince's bedroom, where she became intrigued by the magical rose resting underneath a protective glass dome on a small table. just as she had lifted the dome, the beast discovered her.
in a fit of rage, he used his powers to steal the air from her lungs, choking her as he grabbed her, raising her up from the ground in one of his large paws.
just before the her life was extinguished, something in her eyes caused him to break through the blackness clouding his mind and heart. he released her and she fled the castle in fear with her horse, philippe, intending to return to her village. falling for belle  back at the castle, the prince watched her in his magic hand mirror. when he saw her become lost in the woods not far from the castle and was set upon by a ravenous pack of wolves, a strange urge to protect her broke through the blackness of the curse upon him.
the beast rushed to her aide, frightening off the pack, though not without sustaining injuries from bites on his back and arms. he then allowed belle to help him back to the castle, standing so she could get him onto phillippe's back. once they were back at the castle, he allowed her to tend to his wounds.
it was on this night their relationship began to slowly become more amicable as he began to consciously choose to fight the evil that festered within him due to the curse. it would, however, take time for the young woman to forgive him for trying to kill her.
over the next few weeks, their relationship would further evolve from a casual civility to genuine friendship, and then, something more, at least where the prince was concerned. though for months, he hid his deepening feelings, convinced that a woman so beautiful could never fall for a grotesque creature such as himself. one day, he confessed his secret feelings to his staff and asked their advice. they suggested that he perform a grand gesture for her, which he agreed to do. remembering her love of his library due to the large amount of time they had spent there together, he offered it to her as a gift, saying it was now hers. after giving her the library, mrs. potts suggested to the prince that, since they were incredibly close now, the prince should invite the object of his affection to a dance that weekend on his twenty-first birthday, both to lift her spirits as well as to finally declare his love. letting belle go  intially, the prince was hesitant, fearing that she may not return his affections, but with encouragement, he nervously agreed. after the dance, the young royal took belle out to the ballroom terrace. during their private moment, he showed her the enchanted mirror, explaining that it was able to show her whatever (or whomever) she wanted to see. upon asking to see her mother, belle discovers that, not only was the woman she had missed for so long alive, but that she was being held in a mental hospital for experimentation by its evil owner, monsieur d'arque. deciding that she needed to go back to her village and save her, she asks him to release her. knowing how much he now loves her and how much her mother means to her, he selflessly allows her to go. he does this despite the fact that, since she had not yet declared her love in return, the last petal would fall and the curse would be sealed into permanance that night. however, as a gift before she leaves, he allows her to take the mirror so that she can remember him. they both share a longing look before she leaves, leaning in as though they might kiss, but they don't, since she says she should go before their lips can touch. it is after this moment belle rushes from the castle, mounting philippe and heading back to her village. fighting the mob  whilst belle is working on freeing her mother from monsieur d'arque's sanitorium, the villagers, led by gaston, head up to the beast's castle, intent on killing him, because of how he had tortured them with magic and killed some of their family members before he began fighting the curse. the staff sees them coming and prepares for a fight before alerting their heartbroken master. devoid of the will to fight (but still pushing the evil side away in belle's memory) since their curse would soon be permanant and the woman he loved was gone, he tells cogsworth to simply let them come. disobeying his orders but leaving him alone, they chase the mob out, save for gaston who still plans on trying to kill the beast. belle's return and beast's death  it's then that mrs. potts' young son, a teacup with a broken rim named chip, sneaks away to the village to warn belle that adam is in trouble and needs her help. while chip is away, the sort-of battle between gaston and the beast rages on. soon, belle, chip and her mother arrive, and the younger woman yells for the beast from the ballroom terrace, and he jumps from one of the towers to get to her. once he's there, he only sees her, and the hunter takes advantage of this to shoot the prince in the back with his gun. the large creature stumbles and falls onto the floor of the terrace on his back, bleeding out slowly from his wound. belle's mother looks on as the girl rushes to his side, tears in her eyes as he struggles to touch her face with his paw, remarking about how she came back for him and how he got to see her one final time. after this, the beast takes his final breath and belle sobs on his chest, begging him not to leave her because she loves him. the curse is broken and gaston's death  at that moment, the final petal falls from the rose and the castle's staff becomes inanimate furniture. for the moment, it seemed all hope was lost. suddenly, gaston, enraged by belle's confession of love for the beast, aims his gun at her whilst she sobs over the lifeless body of the beast. he loudly declares that if he can't have her, no one can. however, just as he pulls the trigger, adrienne, belle's mother, steps in front of her, casting a a shield of light over them both that blocks the bullet, causing it to fall to the ground, useless. the fae woman then drops the shield, flying over to the roof gaston is on and grabbing him, bringing him back and setting him on the terrace. she then ties him up with ropes of light, declaring that he will face justice.
adrienne turns her attention to the wilted and petaless rose underneath the dome. waving her hand, the glass lifts on its own and a golden rush of swirling magic carries the free petals as it moves towards adam's body, lifting it into the air once belle moves back in surprise. golden light begins to shoot from his hands and feet as his fur and other beastly features, dissolve and are replaced with human ones.
once the transformation is complete, the magic and rose petals swirling around him set him down gently, alive, uninjured, and no longer a beast. when belle first sees him, she's confused, but he soon convinces her that he and the beast are one and the same. the two share a kiss as the golden magic sends fireworks up into the sky that rain down on the castle, restoring the building to it's former glory and its staff to their human forms, thus breaking the curse. when the couple parts, adam sees gaston tied up and asks what happened after he died. when belle explains that gaston tried to kill her but her mother saved her and broke the curse, the now human prince becomes enraged.
using the dark side of his magic left over from the curse, adam steals the air from gaston's lungs and chokes him to death in front of belle and adrienne. he then promises a frightened belle that gaston will never hurt her again and that he will never murder anyone else in her presence again. adrienne's reveal and belle's magic  adrienne then reveals that she is the enchantress and though she does not approve of murder, she will let this pass because she can see he has ultimately changed through the immense love he bares for her daughter, enough to kill to protect her. though adam is initially upset with her for cursing him, he decides to forgive her since it led him to belle, the love of his life and made him a better man. adrienne also told belle of her half-fae lineage and that they too were of the seelie court like adam and his mother. the prince then promised belle he would teach her to wield her magic. engagement, wedding and coronation  not long after the curse was broken, adam would ask belle to marry him in the castle rose garden after a romantic dinner. the young woman eagerly accepted, and thus, it was made known to the people that their prince would wed, and that france would have a new princess who would one day become their queen. however, the happy news was quickly overshadowed when the existence of les charmants was once again revealed. groups of them angrily made their way to the castle, seeking revenge on adam for his father’s past discrimination against them. they soon calmed when they found out their prince, as well as their future princess, were les charmants themselves.
a tense peace settled over france, since despite the fact that belle’s village was kind to les charmants, the rest of the country was not, and fears of a possible civil war were brewing. however, the prince took advantage of the momentary calm and wed his princess in a simple ceremony in their rose garden. it was then decided that their coronation as king and queen of france would be postponed until fears of war passed. they unfortunately did not, and so the prince and princess were crowned in a rather hasty ceremony. present day amid civil war  very soon after the coronation, the civil war that most had feared began, with les charmants on one side and humans on the other. now, the king and queen struggle to hold their divided country together whilst trying to conceive an heir, broker a lasting peace, and keep their fae blood a secret from those who don’t already know.

 appearance   as a beast, adam is tall and large in stature, and has brown hair covering every inch of his body. he also has a set of large, sharp horns and claws on his paws and feet. his teeth are sharp and include two fangs on either end of the top and bottom row. as a human, adam is generally considered handsome. he is tall, lean and fairly muscular. he has short but soft brown hair and a well-kept brown beard the color of his hair. most often, he wears loose linen shirts with fine coats over them, along with leather pants and black boots. if he is going to an event, his shirts are usually silk, and his coats more ornate. he rarely wears his crown except for very special public addresses or events.

adam can manipulate shadow in various ways, including but not limited to: choking his enemies, snapping enemies' necks, providing cover in heavy fire or for stealth, creating shadow weapons and moving people and objects

adam can manipulate fire in various ways, including but not limited to: conjuring fire or fire projectiles out of thin air, conjuring blades or other weapons made of fire, creating walls of fire, and putting fires out if they are already present

now free of the curse, adam was reunited with his belle and continues his job as a french teacher at storybrooke high school while they try for a baby. post-curse adam also wields his light and dark magic.

Adam met Belle in college and dated her after months of trying to get her to go out. after a year of dating, adam proposed and they are engaged. however, his schedule makes the relationship & wedding planning difficult but they persevere.
